WHAT IS A CUBIC YARD?

A cubic yard is a unit of measurement that represents a 3 feet x 3 feet x 3 feet cube.

1 Cubic Yard =

  • 27 cubic feet
  • 46,656 cubic inches (36” x 36” x 36”)
  • (54) ½ cubic foot bags
  • (36) 5 gallon buckets
  • 9 regular size wheelbarrow loads (3 cubic feet)
  • 14 small wheelbarrow loads (2 cubic feet)
  • 201.96 gallons

The bagged products we sell are generally ½ cubic foot, so one cubic yard is 54 bags.

For garbage cans and totes (20 gal, 50 gal, 96 gal, etc.), use the calculation of 7.48 gallons per cubic foot.
